Today I forgot to put my phone on vibrate while at work (wearing earphones). I didn’t notice my phone ringing but once I took off the earphones I heard it beep and sure enough, there was a missed call.
Re-implementing TreoAlertMgr January 14, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : programs, treo650 , add a commentSo there’s a problem with the Treo. Unlike other phones it does not persist in reminding you that you’ve missed a call or SMS. There’s an app called TreoAlertMgr that remedies this but it’s shareware and the author seems to have sold out. I tried contacting the author to see if they’d unlock existing copies or release the code but I got no answer. I guess Nokia is really keen on keeping this nugget a secret!
So I’ve set out to re-implement this program. It’s surprisingly simple. In just a few days I’ve got the basic functionality done. I had no idea what I was doing but with the PalmOS Reference + Companion in Plucker, OnBoardC+SrcEdit, Bird and some PalmOS headers I found it seems I’ve got everything I need.
It was really straightforward too. I was expecting to have to dig into areas I shouldn’t be accessing but not so. I just registered for the GotUsersAttention notification, set an alarm for now + x minutes and when it went off I beep and reset the alarm if there are pending alerts. One additional notification lets me re-enable after a restart. Simple huh? Giving all of the configuration a GUI is going to be the hardest part.
I’d post what I’ve got already but the Access Developer Pavilion is currently experiencing issues and I don’t have a creator code registered for this app yet. Expect to see an app and sources (GPLv2) soon.

Isaac's language improves again January 13, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentSo Isaac has been saying words out the wazoo for a while now but he’s been mostly just copying what we say. His most common phrase recently has been “what’s that?” and by asking questions he’s starting to understand the words he can say. Even better, he’s now stringing those words into sentences that make sense.
Emily can do puzzles January 2, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : emily , add a commentJust a few weeks ago Emily couldn’t do puzzles but today she can.
It’s funny to watch her. She has to try all of the pieces to see if they fit and simple things like having a piece sitting rotated can get her confused but she figures it out eventually.
