Isaac about to lose the night time nappies? March 31, 2009
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentIsaac has been toilet trained for ages now except at night. Despite what we thought were signs of readiness back in September he has proved consistently unable to handle himself at night.
That is until now. He got up yesterday and the day before that to do a wee (a first for him) so his nappy was actually dry when we got him up. I told him he had to go 6 days with a dry nappy before he could have undies on like a big boy. He seems quite determined to make it.
Update 10 April 2009
Nope. Must have been a lucky streak. He’s back to wetting the bed again. He does want to get rid of the nappies, he’s just not able to wake up before he does a wee at night. Oh well.
Isaac's first day at his new kindy January 13, 2009
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentWith Emily starting school at Rivermount College this year, we’ve moved Isaac to the kindy next door. His first day was today and it’s as if he had always been there. He went in with no problems, impressed the staff with his behaviour and was happy when we picked him up.
We’re hoping the next 2 years will let him grow since he won’t have Emily hanging around all the time telling him what to do.
Isaac makes progress September 2, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentIsaac’s speech has progressed in leaps and bounds. He talks all the time and makes sense now. His recall and insight are getting better too. He’s starting to come out from behind Emily. I think he’ll really flourish next year when Emily is off at school all day.
He’s been waking up dry after daytime sleeps for about 3 weeks now, except for the one time he slept for 4 hours. The last 2 days he’s woken up dry in the morning too. We just might be nearing the end of nappies.
It’s finally getting warm enough for Isaac to use blankets again. He’s been in a huge gro-bag for winter because he doesn’t sleep still enough for blankets. I think he’s probably going to be more still now anyway, the bag seems to have helped him sleep more still.
Isaac is a bad boy August 4, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , 1 comment so farIsaac has been avoiding sleeps at kindy for a while now. When he comes home after a day without sleep he’s completely tired and exhausted and tends to be very fragile.
Today, he screamed at Bree all the way home. She put his nappy on (in case he fell asleep), put him on his bed and left him for a few minutes. When she came back there was wee on his bed but his nappy was dry (and suspiciously re-positioned). Upon questioning he admitted to taking his nappy off and weeing on his bed.
We always knew Isaac would be a stubborn one. I never thought that we’d have something like this to deal with.
Something's up with Isaac April 4, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentJust as with Emily, it seems something is up with Isaac. About the same age, same symptoms (even to fear of the pool).
He did a wee on the potty yesterday but didn’t notice that Bree had taken the bowl out. Needless to say there was a big puddle on the floor and Isaac was most upset.
Surround finally installed March 11, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : house, isaac , add a commentI finally got around to installing my surround speakers. I did it over 2 weekends and the result looks tidy, though you can see the wires. Kind of a shame I couldn’t just put them through the ceiling but the lounge room doesn’t have a ceiling space :(
I whacked on a movie to test them out and it was THX one. There’s this thing at the start where this funny man makes a cow noise then plugs it into his THX sign, then it makes cow noises from everywhere. It showed the speakers are working fine but totally feaked out Isaac. I guess he wasn’t expecting the noises to come from everywhere :)
Isaac is done (last post, really) March 3, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , 1 comment so farIsaac is done. Toilet trained. I’d take him anywhere in undies now.
It’s been about a week now with no accidents of any kind and he’s got enough advance warning to come tell us he needs to go to the toilet, pull down his own pants (quite funny to watch) and sit on the toilet. Once he’s done he can even get up by himself but he can’t put his pants back on. He can even use the big toilet though he hasn’t learned how to get on yet. He climbs up and then can’t figure out how to turn around to sit down (Emily did the same thing).
Isaac really gets going February 23, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentFor a few days now Isaac has given us advance warning when he needs to go to the toilet. He’ll also sit on there until he’s done. He’s definitely got it now. He had more accidents than Emily did when getting started but apparently that’s to be expected with boys. Like Emily he’s still not there with poo and we had another accident but yesterday he managed to put it in the potty and was most pleased. Also like Emily, he gets confused with farts and wants to sit on the toilet to do them (or gets upset because he thinks he’s done a poo in his pants).
Isaac has this fascination with watching us empty out the potty into the toilet. Bree’s took him to watch the first time and I guess he just got fixated on it.
Update 26 February 2008
Isaac came home from kindy in the clothes we sent him in – no accidents there. He got home and asked to go to the toilet (or rather, he whinged at us, said “no” to the toilet but couldn’t tell us what he really wanted and we’ve come to recognize this as “I need to go to the toilet”). Then he told us he needed to do a poo and proceeded to do one on the toilet. Twice. There was no rushing about trying to get him on before he let go, he even held the second poo in despite having a nappy on. The one blemish was that he did a wee in his nappy just before he asked to do the poo. He was wearing a nappy though. We eventually stopped putting Emily in a nappy to sleep because she was waking up and doing a wee despite being able to hold it in or get up to go to the toilet so I’m not too concerned about that.
Isaac's progress February 18, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentIsaac went to kindy today and surprised them all with his potty training. He had a poo accident (we had them with Emily for some time after she was trained too) but he did all his wee in the toilet. They were really surprised at just how proud he was of his achievement.
Even more amazing, he came running to me this afternoon and said “Daddy I have to wee” before he had to wee. The only trouble is it took me a few seconds to process what he was saying and he couldn’t stop himself going before I’d yanked off his pants and got him on the toilet. Still, it’s a huge step in the right direction and pretty amazing considering 5 days ago he couldn’t even wee in the toilet unless we were extremely lucky.
He’ll be in undies or training pants (padded undies that absorb wee) unless he’s sleeping now.
Isaac clicks, starts toilet training February 14, 2008
Posted by a1291762 in : isaac , add a commentWe’ve tried Isaac out a few times for toilet training but it wasn’t until today when it clicked. He did 2 wee+poo in the toilet today and was most proud of himself. Here’s hoping he progresses to completely trained as quickly as Emily did.
